Biography of David Rankin |

Born in upstate
NY, on January 26th, I began playing guitar at age 14 after receiving
an old Les Paul copy (Global from Sears) that my brother never played.
Being the youngest of 11, I was exposed to Lot's of great music growing
up (The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Rush, Ted Nugent) that gave me
the inspiration be a performer. My inspiration for singing came from
years of Catholic Mass in upstate NY. I was taken by the power of music and melody
to make people feel. After winning talent show with my band Steel Breeze (no
it's not a rasta band, it was taken from the Floyd song Shine on you crazy diamond)
for the second consecutive year, I was taken in by a teacher and played in his
band at the time Celebration. This introduced me to a new style of music, top
40, funk and R&B. After that
I started taking vocal lessons from Ron Feldman and started my first all original
band Heavenz ta Bestzy (yes I know that sounds 80's and it was)we recorded five
songs. Then started a funk rock band called Groove Bone. We began as an all original
band and recorded a 9-song LP. From there I joined Von Ra. We released a 5 song
demo, a live at the Social DVD and a CD for which I was on several tracks. After
that I started the DRB (David Rankin Band) and released two Cd's, JUNE (a five
song EP) and the Rankin Files (LP). From there I started a band called DOWNSTEM
that got signed to Epic Records. After recording nearly 30 songs for the label
and some moderate touring the band was dropped by Columbia (who took over Epic
at the time). After that I started DMANUFACTURE. We released two CDs Alone I
Fall, (sold 3 thousand copies and won 'Best Alternative CD' award for the Hard
Rock Music Awards and White Noise (received steady radio play on WRIF in Detroit,
and several other stations with the single "everything for nothing".
There are holes in the story, unopened doors if you will that can only be opened
by YOU......the listener. See if you can find what your looking for behind the
unopened door. It is the ONLY place that I have.
